If you know me, you know that all I really do is eat pizza. Preferably for breakfast, lunch and dinner. So, walking into Sugo felt like pizza heaven to me. It felt like setting foot in Rome, where the smell of freshly baked pizzas welcomes you.

At Sugo, you get to choose between twenty different pizzas, all of them little pieces of art. I may be a little biased, but believe me, it looks delicious. The pizzas are displayed in four different sections: fish, meat, veggie and vegan.

As a vegetarian, the options can often get boring. After five veggie pizzas and a funghi, you’ve pretty much seen it all. But at Sugo, they make sure you’ll have an unique pizza, one that you probably haven’t eaten before. For example, I tried the one with mushrooms, truffle sauce, potatoes, Parmesan and fresh parsley. And of course, the non-vegetarian pizzas looked fresh, full and unique, too. How about a pizza with smoked salmon or one with prosciutto?

As if that doesn’t sound cool enough; every single day you’ll find a different combination of pizzas behind the glass. And if you’re having a hard time choosing, it’s absolutely normal to eat more than one slice. You can order your pizzas at the counter and they’ll use scissors to cut it. Some time in the oven and then it’s time for you to have a taste. Would you like a side salad too?

One of the best things about it? It isn’t as unhealthy as you’d think it is, since there isn’t any fat or sugar added. Besides, Sugo has a good eye for sustainability and fair trading. So not only are the pizzas really good, it’s also a responsible choice.

But, in all honesty, it’s not a hotspot until the design and decoration are on point. The one thing I loved the most about the interior of Sugo, were the light up letters on the wall. They absolutely made the place. Other than that, it has lovely plants and cool lights. There’s lots and lots of spots to have a seat and to enjoy the very open space. If you choose to sit upstairs, you can take a look in the kitchen from above.

The atmosphere is chill and easy going. It’s definitely not a fast food place, but it isn’t a fancy restaurant either. It’s the right place to sit down and chat over a really good slice of pizza (or two).

While enjoying our pizza, we saw quite a few people who didn’t have time to stay and took a slice away. There’s also a lot of delivering options, so if you’re having a lazy night in, you should check their website.

Sugo has two locations in Rotterdam, we stopped by the one at Westblaak. You’ll find it on the map below.

So, this was quite a long story, but it comes down to this: go to Sugo, have a pizza, have a good time.

This would be the right time for a pizza pun, but honestly, they’re all a little too cheesy.
